Destination Spotlight: Tahiti (for first timers)

The sun, the sand, the crystal clear water and 116 beautiful islands to choose from, everyone dreams of visiting Tahiti.  When you’re ready to make that dream a reality, we’ve got tips to make sure you enjoy the most of your trip to one of the jewels of the South Pacific.

1. Pack light — No heels needed here!  Light, informal outfits are best for the weather and comfort.  Even socks are considered “formal-wear” here.

2. Don’t overlook garden bungalows in favor of the over-water ones — Save yourself some money for luxurious dinners on the beach by considering a garden bungalow instead.  Some of them even have private pools.  Relaxation is the name of the game in Tahiti, so if swim-up bars and active nightlife are what you’re looking for, you might try somewhere a little less remote.

3. Dive in! — If you’ve always been curious about scuba diving or snorkeling, Tahiti is the place to try it.  The calm, clear waters are perfect for first-time divers and snorkelers.

4. Travel in the off-season — November to April is best, unless you’re planning a wedding or honeymoon. Which brings me to the last tip…

5. Plan for romance at least 6 months in advance — Travel Leaders can set you up with a package that’s just right for you in no-time.  The marriage paperwork, however, takes at least 6 months to complete, so plan accordingly.
